Hannah Arendt, the great German-American philosopher, is currently experiencing a remarkable renaissance. As a prophetess of freedom, who called upon people to tolerate other people’s opinions, her questions and topics are very up-to-date. The Literaturhaus München is continuing its dealing with the concept of democracy with the highly successful exhibition »Hannah Arendt und das 20. Jahrhundert« (Hannah Arendt and the 20th century), which was taken over from the Deutsches Historisches Museum Berlin.

The presentation focusses on Hannah Arendt as political philosopher and intellectual, who did not shy from the “venture of the public realm”. Political and historical power of judgement was important for Hannah Arendt and her philosophy. Her judgements are headstrong, often controversial and always inspiring. Arendt did not rely on any programme, party or tradition. That makes it hard to classify her philosophy but at the same time it makes it interesting.
