Nymphenburg Palace came into being as a monumental present: when the Bavarian Electress Henriette Adelaide gave birth to her first son in 1663, she was presented with the palace by her husband. Her descendants extended the luxurious complex to become one of Germany’s largest palace complexes. Today, visitors from all around the world are able to admire several historic magnificent rooms, an impressive rococo ballroom and, of course, the extensive grounds. On a tour leading us through Munich’s Nymphenburg Palace we will learn about the palace’s diverse history of construction as well as about the Wittelsbach dynasty’s history. It began with Elector Ferdinand Maria (Elector 1651-1679) acquiring the grounds, all the way to the birth of King Ludwig II, better known as the “Fairy Tale King”. Many Bavarian rulers realized themselves here and thus considerably altered the palace’s appearance, both inside and outside. We will look into these historical transformations on our tour, surrounded by spectacular architecture. In cooperation with the Munich Student Union, the Bavarian Palace Administration is organizing this tour through the summer palace of the Wittelsbach dynasty, specially for students. The guided tour will be held in German.
